FAQ

Price checker FAQ: 38 practical questions from buyers and operators

Grouped into six sets: selection, price, installation, software, maintenance and customization. Each answer stands alone, so you do not need another page.

Selection

What screen size should a price checker have?

By viewing distance: 5–8 in within 50cm, 10.1 in at about 1m, 15.6 in at about 1.5m, 21.5–32 in beyond 2m. Also measure the wall width available: under 20cm only fits a 5-inch unit.

How do I choose between the Android and Windows versions?

Choose the Android model if the price software is a web page or an Android app; choose the X86 model for a Windows client that needs serial drivers or ActiveX controls. Both versions of a given size share the same housing and mounting holes.

Is a 5-inch screen too small?

A small screen is enough for a shopper standing 30–40cm from the shelf reading a unit price, specifications and a QR code. To show product images, promotional copy or several lines of specifications, go to 10.1 in and above.

What is the difference between the 21.5 and 32-inch models?

Screen size, processor and whether a printer is built in. The 21.5-inch model runs J1900 with 4G+64G; the 32-inch runs i5-3320M with 4G+128G and includes an 80mm printer with a cutter.

Who is the dual-Ethernet XT802G-X86 for?

It suits sites that need physical separation between the store network and the public internet: one port carries the POS and stock server, the other carries the head office cloud platform or the internet.

Why are there separate POE and DC versions?

POE carries power and data over one cable, which suits shelves and pillars where no socket exists; DC 12V suits counters that have one. The two units are functionally identical, and the power method is fixed at order time.

Is the Linux version worth choosing?

Choose it only if you have a Linux stack in place and want a lighter or fully locked system. Otherwise Android is already light, with better debugging tools and ecosystem.

How many can I buy at once? Is there a minimum order quantity?

Standard configurations carry a low minimum order quantity, and samples can be arranged. Projects with color, silk print, packaging or tooling changes set the minimum per project.

Price and purchasing

Why not publish prices?

One model varies widely with screen, system, power, optional modules and quantity. A blanket price would mislead the selection, so we issue a formal quotation against the configuration.

What does a quotation include?

The unit, standard power adapter, stand, manual and packaging. Optional modules, longer cables, floor stands and on-site installation are priced separately and itemized on the quotation.

What is the usual lead time?

It depends on quantity, configuration and whether the order is customized. Standard configurations are scheduled on receipt of the order; custom projects add sampling and approval time. The contract governs.

Which payment methods do you accept?

As agreed in the contract; commonly a deposit with the balance paid before shipment. Confirm terms with sales.

Can you issue an invoice?

VAT invoices can be issued; invoice type and tax rate follow the contract.

Is there a warranty?

The unit carries a warranty under the contract. It excludes damage from misuse, liquid ingress, unauthorized dismantling and incorrect power supply. The term and conditions are written into the contract.

Installation and deployment

What mounting height works?

Screen center 1.35–1.45m above the floor (1.30–1.55m for the 21.5 and 32-inch portrait models). Lower it by 15–20cm where children or wheelchair users are the main audience.

Can it be mounted on a light steel stud wall?

Yes, but add a backing board before fixing, or use a floor stand. The 21.5 and 32-inch units are heavy, so the mounting surface must carry the load.

How do I mount it on a glass wall?

Glass cannot be drilled directly. Use a floor stand, a ceiling-hung arm, or build a back panel that encloses the glass and fix to that.

What do I need to provide at the location?

One network port (or WiFi coverage), one power feed (the POE version needs only the network port), and 3–5cm of cooling space behind the unit.

How should the cables be routed for a clean look?

Run cables out of the back of the stand, along the shelf pillar or a corner trunking, and leave 30cm of slack on both the network and power cables so the unit can be lifted off for service.

How long does it take to install one unit?

For a standard wall mount, one person can fix, wire and power-test the unit in 20–30 minutes. Where cabling must be rerouted or the wall reinforced, time depends on the site.

Software and integration

Does the price checker include price software?

We can supply a basic query page with a local price list, or hardware only, with your software team building the application. The scope is agreed at project start.

How does it connect to the store POS or ERP?

The usual pattern is for the price checker to send the barcode to a server over serial or the network, and the server returns the product record. We provide interface documentation and debugging support.

Can it run our own app?

On the Android model you can install an APK and set it as the default launcher; the Windows model deploys like a normal PC, with auto logon and start-up launch configurable.

Can it still check prices when the network is down?

Yes. Cache the price list for your most-queried categories on the device; when the network drops, it reads the cache and shows a note that this is an offline price and the checkout price applies.

Can multiple units be managed remotely as one fleet?

Yes. Android supports MDM or your own management console; Windows supports domain policy or endpoint management tools. Fixed IPs or DHCP reservations are recommended.

Can the barcode data format be changed?

Yes. Prefix, suffix, terminator and case conversion are normally handled in the application or the engine configuration, and are set to your system requirements.

Use and maintenance

How should the screen be cleaned?

Power off, then wipe with a microfiber cloth dampened with a little water or a neutral cleaner. Do not use solvents other than alcohol, do not use abrasive cleaners, and never spray water onto the screen.

Should the unit be switched off every day?

Units in public areas usually stay powered. Set a scheduled restart in the OS, for example overnight each day; that is better for long-term stability than repeated power cycling.

Will it overheat in summer?

The 802 series is passively cooled: leave 3–5cm behind the housing and do not enclose it in a sealed cabinet. If the location runs hot for long periods, assess adding a fan or moving the unit.

What should I do if scanning becomes unreliable?

First clean the scan window glass, since fingerprints and dust have a large effect; then check whether a reflective film was applied or the lighting changed. If none of that explains it, contact technical support for a remote log review.

Can we replace the mainboard or screen ourselves?

Not recommended. Dismantling the unit voids the warranty, and the 21.5 and 32-inch models carry mains voltage inside. Contact technical support first to diagnose a fault.

How is the system recovered if it fails?

The Android model can be restored from the factory image; for Windows, take a system image before shipment and enable the Unified Write Filter. The recovery method is documented in the delivery pack.

Customization and after-sales support

Can you apply our brand?

Yes. Housing color, silk print, boot screen, packaging and in-system branding can all change; tooling and certification costs are assessed per project.

Does a color change need new tooling?

A color change needs no tooling: plastic parts are painted and a sample is confirmed against the color code. Tooling is needed only for structural or cutout changes.

Can you support export certification?

We can supply samples, technical files and testing support. Certificates are issued by accredited laboratories, with cost and lead time set by the destination and standard.

How is after-sales support handled?

We diagnose remotely first and fix remotely where possible; where a return is needed, the contract repair process applies. Customers should keep 1–2 spare units to cut downtime.

Are spare parts available?

Common spares (power adapter, stand, scan window glass) can be ordered separately; confirm the list with sales.

Do software faults fall under the hardware warranty?

No. The hardware warranty covers the hardware itself; software issues sit in the application layer and are handled by the software provider. We can help determine whether the cause is hardware or software.
