Convenience and fresh-food stores: one small-screen price checker covers three common problems
Convenience and fresh-food stores have short traffic paths and little wall space, so the price checker has to be small and thin: the 8-inch XT802D hangs on a shelf post or the side of a cooler, the 5-inch XT802C fits a narrow endcap slot, and PoE power saves a mains outlet.
Where these stores usually get stuck
The store is small, with no room for a floor-standing unit
The aisle between the checkout, shelving and coolers is barely over 1m wide, and a floor-standing unit blocks it.
Weighed price and shelf price disagree in the fresh section
Bulk items are priced by weight, so customers see a per-weight price on the label but pay for the whole pack at checkout, which invites questions.
Unstaffed at night
Some stores have only one person on duty at night, so customers cannot find anyone to ask about a price.
Match models to positions
Each row maps to a real mounting position, not a blanket claim that all 9 models work anywhere.
| Mounting position | Recommended model | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Shelf posts, cooler sides | XT802D (8-inch) | 212×143×37mm, 732g, Z-shaped stand with 4 mounting holes; hangs on a post without taking floor space. |
| Narrow endcap slots, next to the checkout | XT802C (5-inch) | 148×110×40mm, under 15cm wide, fits a shelf side panel. |
| Needs shelf life and ingredient list | XT802E (10.1-inch) | A larger screen shows unit price, pack size, ingredients and shelf life at once, so customers stop turning the pack over. |
Five steps from site visit to go-live
- Decide the power first: if there is a PoE switch, take the PoE version; if not, take DC 12V and route the power cable through the shelf trunking.
- On units near the weighing area, show both the per-weight price and the pack total to reduce checkout disputes.
- The fresh section is humid, so keep the mounting position away from direct spray and cooler outlets to avoid condensation on the screen.
- Before go-live, test 30 high-turnover items in the store to confirm the scan distance and screen angle.
Convenience and fresh food FAQ
Will condensation form next to the cooler?
Condensation forms where the cooler outlet blows, so keep at least 30cm of distance or mount the unit above the cooler side panel. The hardware is designed for indoor use and is not waterproof, so do not install it where it can be splashed.
The store has only one network cable. Can it carry power too?
Yes, choose the PoE version with 48V input; one Cat6 cable carries both power and data. If the switch does not support PoE, add a single-port PoE injector.
Will customers damage the screen by pressing it?
The front panel is a capacitive touchscreen designed for normal fingertip touch. In the software, turn off long-press dragging, block exit to the desktop and set the app to start on boot to reduce accidental trips into system settings.
